These plants were developed by researchers at Binghamton University, who integrated photosynthetic bacteria into artificial leaves to replicate the effects of real plants. The result is a technology capable of reducing up to 90% of CO\u2082 levels in the air, far surpassing the 10% achieved by natural plants in the same timeframe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the current system generates only 140 microwatts of energy, enough to power small electronic devices, scientists are working to perfect this technology to produce more than 1 milliwatt, expanding its potential applications. Additionally, the project envisions improvements like automated irrigation systems and the use of various bacterial species to extend the lifespan and optimize the performance of these plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With a few adjustments, these plants could be present in every home,”<\/strong> said Professor Sean Choi, project leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
